A Beautiful Saturday in Gettysburg

Yesterday was Matt's birthday and overall I think it was a wonderful day.  Jocelyn had a soccer game in the morning.....girl scored 3 goals!!  And guess what, I missed them. :(  I was so upset.  I was with Luke at the playground portion of the park because he doesn't have the attention span to sit and watch all of her game.  Usually Nanny or Pappy get playground duty, but they were unfortunately unable to join us they were helping to take care of PapPap (long story).  But, that started the day off great.

We then went out to Rosalie's for lunch.  It is a local Italian restaurant with wonderful food.  We ended up bringing home 3 boxes of food because we were all stuffed.

Afterwards we took a trip to Gettysburg.  There is a little ice cream/candy place there called Kilwins.

They have the best ice cream.  Matt & I always get the chocolate peanut butter ice cream.  Jocelyn got a huge bag of popcorn for a $1.00 and Luke got a cup of mint chocolate chip ice cream.  The weather in Gettysburg was gorgeous.  It was the first the kids have been to the battlefield and they loved it (moreso so they could just run around and be silly), but they liked being able to climb on the monuments too.

Today Jocelyn & I are participating in the March for Babies walk locally.  This is my 3rd year participating & raising money and her 2nd.  It's supposed to be a beautiful day, so we're looking forward to it!

Apparently I'm Tarjay Shopping All Wrong

Had to run some errands at lunch today to pick up some last minute stuff for Matt birthday (yes as much as I've been in denial, I'm officially a procrastinator.)  I also had to pick up a few personal things and a few things for work, so I swung by the 'ol Tarjay (yeah, that was like so 5 years ago wasn't it?).  I swear, everywhere I turned a woman (and yes, sorry ladies, I'm calling you out) was pushing a cart and talking on her cell phone.  Greeting cards - woman & cell phone, girls clothing - woman & cell phone, beauty products - woman & cell phone!  For crying out loud!  Please just take a moment and get off of your cell phones.  We as a society really need to take a step (or 300) back from using the cell phone 24/7.

With that being said, after Tarjay I jumped in the drive-thru line at Panera bread and sat and sat and sat some more.  It took forever to move.  Then, once the line actually started moving there were individuals who had their noses buried in their cell phone texting and they weren't paying attention to pull up.  I was beginning to develop some Panera Bread Drive-Thru Rage.  Unfortunately, the sandwich & soup I got weren't quite worth the long wait AND the $10.00 cost.  I did get some iced green tea as well (which I loooooove) that added to that $10.00, but that's an expensive lunch for what I got.  I think I'm going to be passing on Panera for a while.

I've Discovered the BEST Guilty Pleasure Food

A while back I was looking for just a taste of something sweet one night and made a little concoction on my own of peanut butter, Nutella and Cool Whip.  Holy moly!  I had forgotten about it until last night when again I came across those 3 ingredients in my kitchen while on the hunt for some sort of dessert and I swear at one point a choir appeared in my kitchen and sang a few bars of 'Allelujah' (you know, sitcom style).  Seriously, if you read this, I urge you to try it.  And it doesn't even take a whole lot to satisfy your sweet craving because it's SO sweet.

So can I just say TGIFF (Thank Goodness It's FINALLY Friday!).  Longest.week.ever.  On the agenda today (oh yeah, other than work) is birthday gift shopping for Matt.  His birthday is tomorrow, so yes, I procrastinate.  Actually, I wasn't quite sure what to get him, but just yesterday I figured I would go to our local running store at lunch and get him a gift card.  He is dying to get back into running after his knee surgery and will be running Marine Corps Marathon in the fall, so he can get himself some new shoes or gear or something.  Plus it sends some business our LRS way.

Jbird has a soccer game tomorrow morning which we'll attend and then we're taking Matt out for lunch.  I think I'm going to go order some cupcakes at lunch too (if they can make them with 24 hrs notice!).  Otherwise, we'll let Matt pick what he wants to do for the afternoon, if anything (I'm ok with chilling at home, it's supposed to be a beautiful day).

Trying to become a running UNfailure

Growing up I was incredibly active.  Running & biking around the neighborhood, doing gymnastics with friends, swimming at the pool and playing field hockey from middle school through high school.  Once I went to college, however, my fitness level diminished greatly and now I live a fairly sedentary life, even with 2 young children.

So in the last 2 years Matt has become addicted to running.  He has run 2 marathons and is going to begin training for another (after healing from knee surgery to remove a loose fragment of cartilege).  So I've been bit by the running bug too, but I can't seem to get myself motivated to stick to a schedule and keep up with it.  I'd like to be able to get up in the morning and run before anyone else gets awake, but with my schedule that requires I get up at 4:30 to get a run in and be back to shower around 5:00 or so (the joys of curly hair and having to air dry.....I need to allow time for that to happen).  Evenings are difficult because the kids want to play and would want to run with me, plus Matt usually runs in the evenings, so one of us needs to be around to watch the kids.

I NEED to find a different way.  I was going to get up this morning and go, but just couldn't peel myself out of bed.  So, instead of starting my day off with a kick-butt workout, I'm fighting feelings of being a running failure.  I am, however, determined to make it work, so I'm still trying to figure out how............just have to get creative I guess!

Ok Monday, You Win

So starting off your week with an emotional breakdown at work is productive right?  Well, productive or not that was my day.  Typical manic Monday.  Rushing to get everyone up & out the door early because I had early work obligations.  Craziness ensues at work.  Early afternoon a work friend pops in to my office as she does daily and our chat turns ultra serious and the heaviness of life & supermomdom surfaces and I find myself crying.  Weakness & frailty gushing uncontrollably.  I hate it.  But, I had a good 'therapy' session with her as she understands and moved on with my day.

Got some outside time in with the kiddos (lovin' the fall temps!) when we got home.  Got them settled & tucked into bed for the night.  Find myself upset at the fact that we offered to take in a 6 year old golden retriever from someone who needed to find him a home as they were downsizing, but she allowed someone else to take him.  I (like a kid) got my hopes up that we were going to add a new furchild to our family.  Now I'm disappointed.  Boy, Monday is beatin' the tar out of me.

I've added a new job title to the resume - physical therapist.  Yep, that's right, I'm doin' PT now.  Well, I'm going to attempt to.  Matt just finished PT (real, professional PT) for a sore hamstring and constricted (I think that's the term, hmmmm, better study more) muscles.  Now I'm supposed to recreate these therapy moves, stretches & massages at home.  Ummm, yeah, hopefully you don't need PT after I perform my PT. :)  I'll let you know if he can walk tomorrow.
